Brown Sugar-Broiled Citrus with Yogurt

Brown Sugar-Broiled Citrus with Yogurt

Adapted from Miriam’s favorite blog, Smitten Kitchen, this recipe makes a delicious winter breakfast or brunch dish when citrus is at its peak. Sometimes we serve it with a spoonful of Erickson Family Granola too.

Directions

  • 1

Preheat the broiler to high with a rack in the upper third. Line a baking sheet with foil.

  • 2

Cut off the tops and bottoms of each piece of citrus (plan on 1 piece of citrus fruit per person). Standing the fruit on a flat side, carefully remove the peel with a knife, slicing from top to bottom following the curve of the fruit. Go back and trim off any white pith that might remain on the fruit, then slice the citrus into ½-inch-thick rounds. Arrange the rounds on the prepared baking sheet.

  • 3

Sprinkle each round with about ¼ teaspoon brown sugar, then broil until the surface is caramelized and bubbly, about 10 minutes depending on the strength of the broiler—keep an eye on them to prevent them from scorching.

  • 4

Transfer the slices to a serving platter and drizzle with any accumulated juices from the baking sheet. Chill until ready to serve or serve immediately with yogurt, mint and granola on the side.
